Mezcal Hacienda Oponguio was born as a brand in 2015, being a continuation of a legacy dating back to the early 20th century, initiated by Don Juan Mejía Gómez. As the third generation at the helm, we have taken on the responsibility of preserving and perpetuating this family tradition.
The name “Hacienda Oponguio” was chosen in homage to the place in Michoacán, Mexico, that served as the setting for family gatherings where we enjoyed this drink, which remained a family secret for decades.
The creation of the brand was in response to the request of our community neighbors, who expressed their desire for our mezcal to be available to the general public. Due to the exceptional quality and flavor of our product, in 2020, we inaugurated our vinata -term used for a mezcal distillery in Michoacán-, to carry out production on a larger scale, meeting the demand in both Mexico and the United States.
The distinctive Denomination of Origin for Mezcal certifies Hacienda Oponguio as a genuinely Michoacán product, crafted with passion and dedication, exclusively for you, using agaves from our land and a meticulous process.
